VeloVoices Awards 2019: Rider of the Year (Male)

It’s been a great, great cycling season! We had five different winners of the Monuments, three brand new winners of the Grand Tours – all from countries that have never won a Grand Tour before … what more could you want? The coveted VeloVoices Rider of the Year is for the rider whose presence in a race makes it more exciting, who rides with guts and who is gracious in both victory and defeat. Last year’s Rider of the Year was Julian Alaphilippe – can he double up this year? Here are our nominations …

For the rider who has captured our imagination, had us on the edge of our seats, and made us reel with admiration it’s the coveted VeloVoices Rider of the Year. Women’s cycling goes from strength to strength and this year we have two current World Champions, a cycling legend (and former World Champion), plus a Classics firebrand!

Some rivalries are friendly – two riders who get the best out of each other on the road and are happy to share a beer afterwards. Others are perhaps a bit … sharper. Some were even rivalries within the same team. We’ve got a selection of both in the new category: Rivalry of the year!
