Vuelta a Espana 2020 : Stage 5 – Tenacious Wellens triumphs

Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) powered up the punchy finish on Stage 5 of La Vuelta to take his maiden Vuelta victory and the King of the Mountains jersey. The Belgian timed his effort to perfection, leaving breakaway companions Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) and new Sunweb kid-on-the-block Thymen Arensman resigned to second and third place respectively. Top ten on GC remain the same with Jumbo-Visma’s Primoz Roglic in red, despite a full gas start and a tangled crash in sight of the finish line.

Tour de France 2019: Stage 3 – Alaphilippe swashbuckles into yellow

Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-QuickStep) swashbuckled his way to stage victory and the maillot jaune as Mike Teunissen (Jumbo-Visma) struggled on the frantic, attackity Ardennes style finale into Epernay. Hot favourite for the stage, the Frenchman unleashed a devastating attack on the final climb, caught and passed lone leader Tim Wellens (Lotto-Soudal) and scampered solo to the finish. Michael Matthews (Team Sunweb) got the better of Trek-Segafredo’s Jasper Stuyven to complete the podium. A slight split in the field at the finish saw Egan Bernal (Ineos) and Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) gain five seconds on their GC rivals
