Stage 21: Versailles to Paris, 133.5km, flat
This stage is always special but this year’s final stage is even more so. Going through the courtyard of the Louvre, past its famous glass pyramid, then down the Champs and around the Arc de Triomphe ten times, this short stage will be held at dusk for a floodlit finish.

I was at the last day of the Tour de France last year in Paris so this year I thought: why not go to the last day of the Giro d’Italia in Brescia? I was accompanied by my in-house photographer who struck out – stood in the wrong place – but not my friend Nathalie Novembrini who, fortunately for me, managed to bag a number of photographs to help me convey the party atmosphere on the last day of what we’ll long remember as an epic Giro. Stage 21: Riese Pio X to Brescia, 197km
Much like the Tour de France in a final stage that is not a time trial, there was no threat to the maglia rosa as the peloton rode into Brescia today. Vincenzo Nibali would not be denied his Giro trophy. The only question left to be answered was who would be awarded the red points jersey. Would Mark Cavendish take it back off Nibali? Yes was the answer.
