Giro 2018 Stage 8: Carapaz sizzles in the rain; Yates stays in pink

It started off very slowly and ended up very wet. Stage 8 of the Giro d’Italia provided a good few talking points but it waited until the last ten minutes to serve them up. The remnants of the day’s break tried hard to hold on to their advantage but a huge surge from Movistar’s Richard Carapaz put an end to their hopes. The Ecuadorian took the stage win in style, his country’s first ever Giro victory. Simon Yates came through safely to stay in pink another day but Chris Froome had a bit of a skittish ‘mare.

Paris-Nice 2018: Soler shines in Race to the Sun

It’s been another rip-roaring edition of Paris-NiceMarc Soler took his maiden WorldTour victory after a final day three-man, long-range Spanish smash-and-grab stage. Soler finished third on the day but with enough time on the chasing pack, which included the yellow jersey, plus bonus seconds, to catapult the Movistar rider from sixth to the top step. Mitchelton-Scott’s Simon Yates stepped down to second place (by just 4sec) with Gorka Izagirre (Bahrain-Merida) rounding out the podium.
