It’s been another rip-roaring edition of the Race to the Sun. Egan Bernal (Sky) took his maiden Paris-Nice with a comfortable 39-second cushion after taking the leader’s jersey on the penultimate stage. This was despite a late smash-and-grab attempt from fellow Colombian Nairo Quintana (Movistar), who finished runner-up in a Sky sandwich with former leader’s jersey wearer, Michal Kwiatkowski rounding out the podium. Indeed, it was a veritable return to form here for the Skybots, who scooped all the prizes save the KOM jersey.
We had races all over the place in the past week – including one that had a *confetti finish*! Hell YEAH! Julian Alaphilippe mastered the descent of the Col du Portillon in swashbuckling style to claim his second victory on Stage 16 of the Tour de France. The Frenchman caught and passed an unfortunate Adam Yates who fell on one of the tricky corners whilst leading, and soloed in with plenty of time to enjoy the adulation of the crowd. There was little action on GC and everything remains poised for a hopefully GC-defining, 65km stage 17. [And we’ll be here for the WHOLE THING! – ed]
