Putting up with none of the gurning shenanigans of Thomas Voeckler on the final descent, Mick Rogers warmed the heart of Oleg Tinkov once again by winning stage 16 solo. Vincenzo Nibali stayed in yellow but Thibaut Pinot put the thumbscrews on Romain Bardet to take third overall.
In the penultimate stage of this year’s Giro d’Italia, a fan incident helped Mick Rogers take another solo summit finish on the brutal Monte Zoncolan, while Nairo Quintana finished with Rigoberto Uran on his wheel and ahead of all other rivals and is now one stage away from the pink confetti celebrations of his first grand tour win.
