The tweets have been so good these past couple weeks that I have brought the Tuesday that 2022 starts for this column forward by a month. Yes, we’re back and we’ve got fans and teams alike making the most of their twitter feed. We have Ineos, Jumbo, Wanty, Thomas De Gendt, Marianne Vos, Tadej Pogacar, Filippo Ganna (natch) and dogs in jerseys. Well, one dog in one jersey. And much much more!
It was a Weekend in Hell – for the first time, we had women’s Roubaix on Saturday and men’s Roubaix on Sunday. It was all about the mud, the blood, the snot, the tears, the ache, the cobbles. And we loved it! (Thank you, @abagofspanners, for the phrase Caked Crusaders). Hopefully, we’ll give you a real sense of the weekend and showing you little treasures you may have missed! We also say goodbye to Andre Greipel and Nicolas Roche. Oh – and at the end? We have Italian riders dancing in cleats!!!!!
For the rider who has captured our imagination, had us on the edge of our seats, and made us reel with admiration it’s the coveted VeloVoices Rider of the Year. Women’s cycling goes from strength to strength and this year we have two current World Champions, a cycling legend (and former World Champion), plus a Classics firebrand!
Voting ends on 14 December 2019 at 11.59PM, GMT. If you think there’s someone who should be on the list, there’s a write-in option on the poll at the bottom of the post!
