Giro d’Italia 2021 : Stage 14 – Fortunato conquers Zoncolan, Bernal takes more time

Stage 14 was the first serious climbing stage in the Giro d’Italia and serious in Italian is pronounced Zoncolan. Fans were afroth with anticipation but as is often the case, the race only really got off the ground in the final handful of kilometres. Lorenzo Fortunato of Eolo-Kometa was the breakaway rider who took the Zoncolan on and won his first ever professional race. Zig-zagging Jan Tratnik (Bahrain Victorious) and Alessandro Covi (UAE Team Emirates) completing the stage podium. Egan Bernal tried to play it cool but good legs meant that when he saw a chance, he took yet more time from his rivals and he stands firmly on top of the GC.

Giro d’Italia 2020 – Stage 16 – Tratnik powers to the win, Almeida refuses to lay down

Stage 16 of the Giro d’Italia saw action all over the place. Once again, the winner came from the breakaway, with Jan Tratnik of Bahrain-McLaren taking the win by blasting away from Ben O’Connor (NTT) in the final kilometre. The peloton, packed full of the GC riders, took things easy until the final ascent where Joao Almeida of Quickstep took a whole load of psychological advantage and even grabbed some seconds.
