Giro d’Italia 2019: Stage 12 – Benedetti triumphs as Polanc takes pink.

Stage 12 and finally the Giro fizzed into excitement as the break went all the way and the GC riders came out to play. Cesare Benedetti‘s dogged persistence delivered his first, and BORA-hansgrohe’s third, victory on this jaunt around Italy. UAE-Team Emirates produced a masterclass in how to retain the maglia rosa by swapping it from the shoulders of Valerio Conti to Jan Polanc – and increased their advantage over Primoz Roglic (Lotto-Visma) to 4 minutes and seven seconds while doing so. All this and Mikel Landa (Movistar) attacked with Astana’s Miguel Angel Lopez to gain time on their rivals.

Giro 2017 Stage 17: Rolland ends Cannondale dry spell

Pierre Rolland finally gifts Cannondale-Drapac with a long-awaited stage win in a Grand Tour by taking Stage 17 of #Giro100, while GC contenders took a quiet approach before the looming hard stages ahead. Young Jan Polanc cut his deficit both in GC and the young riders’ classification with the help of his Slovenian compatriot Matej Mohoric. And no change overall, apart from Adam Yates leaving the top 10 – Tom Dumoulin is still in pink.

Giro 2017 Stage 4: Jan Polanc’s persistence prevails on Etna, Quick-Steppers still in the pink

Would we get sparks or just a spot of smouldering on the slopes of Mount Etna on today’s stage 4 of Giro d’ItaliaJan Polanc was the only one left standing from the day’s four-man break atop Etna at the end of a day which sorted out the contenders. The young Slovenian managed to stay ahead of the fast closing Ilnur Zakarin, while Geraint Thomas was the best of the rest. Bob Jungels seventh place finish, on the same time as Thomas, was enough for him to assume the maglia rosa  (and best young rider jersey) from his team-mate Fernando Gaviria.
