Giro d’Italia 2021 : Stage 16 – Bernal takes no prisoners on the Princess stage

Stage 16 of this year’s Giro should have been the Queen Stage. However, due to weather concerns and a meeting between the organisers and the riders, the stage was cut to 155km and only two classified climbs, instead of four. Bad flying conditions meant that the TV transmitters were not in place to relay the race pictures, so we were tantalised with only 4G patches. The last rider we saw on the mountain was Egan Bernal attacking out of a GC group. The first rider we saw come round to the finish line was the same. And the GC group had quite the shake-up.

Giro d’Italia 2021 : Stage 15 – Victory for Campenaerts, as you were for the rest

The Giro’s 15th stage brought us yet another win for the breakaway. Victor Campenaerts notched up another win for Team Qhubeka ASSOS, pipping Oscar Riesebeek of Alpecin Fenix at the line. Nikias Arndt of Team DSM finished off the podium. It was as you were for the GC guys, apart from Bora’s Emanuel Buchmann who had to call it quits after a huge crash just after the start of the stage. Giro d’Italia 2021 : Stage 14 – Fortunato conquers Zoncolan, Bernal takes more time

Stage 14 was the first serious climbing stage in the Giro d’Italia and serious in Italian is pronounced Zoncolan. Fans were afroth with anticipation but as is often the case, the race only really got off the ground in the final handful of kilometres. Lorenzo Fortunato of Eolo-Kometa was the breakaway rider who took the Zoncolan on and won his first ever professional race. Zig-zagging Jan Tratnik (Bahrain Victorious) and Alessandro Covi (UAE Team Emirates) completing the stage podium. Egan Bernal tried to play it cool but good legs meant that when he saw a chance, he took yet more time from his rivals and he stands firmly on top of the GC.
