Giro d’Italia 2020 : Stage 21 – Ganna takes the stage; Geoghegan Hart takes the trophy

After the high drama in the high mountains this last week, it came down to a time trial to settle the maglia rosa. It should come as no surprise to anyone that the winner of the stage – by a smackdown 32sec – was Filippo Ganna (Ineos). And, as much as there were people out there who wanted a Jai Hindley win (although you wouldn’t know if you were listening to Eurosport), it was no surprise that Tao Geoghegan Hart unseated the Sunweb rider to raise the beautiful Trofeo Senza Fine. Wilco Kelderman took the third step of the podium.

Giro d’Italia 2020 : Stage 20 – Second stage for Tao as he and Jai tie

We knew it was going to be close. Three weeks of racing in the 2020 Giro d’Italia – chills and spills and thrills – and we have the maglia rosa decided on the final day. It is all up for grabs. At the end of Stage 20, it was mano a mano between Tao Geoghegan Hart from Ineos and Jai Hindley from Sunweb. Jai took some intermediate sprint seconds and TGH won the stage. And it is now a dead heat going into tomorrow’s ITT.

Vuelta a Espana 2020 : Stage 4. Giro d’Italia 2020: Stage 19. Bennett, Cerny and whole lot of confusion

Sam Bennett (Deceuninck Quick Step) carried straight on with his winning ways by claiming victory on Stage 4 of La Vuelta – his seventh of the year. Initially given the jump by UAE Team Emirates Jasper Philipsen, the Irishman claimed the slipstream and zoomed past in the final pedal strokes. Meanwhile over at the Giro d’Italia, Josef Cerny delivered a fine solo victory for his CCC team, leaping away from the break with 20km to go. As marvellous as that was, it wasn’t the main story of stage 19 – as rider power turned what should have been the longest stage, into the shortest! There was no change on GC anywhere.
