Vuelta a Espana 2017 : Stage 11 – Oh Superman …

It was a tough stage in the Vuelta 2017, not least because the riders spent most of it in a cold, windy downpour. While Romain Bardet, who had been allowed to go in the day’s break, tried valiantly to stay away (with Darwin Atapuma for company), Bahrain-Merida had another plans for their man, Vincenzo Nibali. But with GC riders all over the mountain, it was Astana’s Miguel Angel Lopez who took advantage of a weak moment on the final climb and rode to a fabulous stage win. Chris Froome gained buckets of time on his rivals and the GC was well and truly shaken.

Giro stage 20: Rogers crowned King of Zoncolan while Quintana locks GC down

In the penultimate stage of this year’s Giro d’Italia, a fan incident helped Mick Rogers take another solo summit finish on the brutal Monte Zoncolan, while Nairo Quintana finished with Rigoberto Uran on his wheel and ahead of all other rivals and is now one stage away from the pink confetti celebrations of his first grand tour win.

One of our regular VeloEyes, Davide Calabresi, was at the Giro last weekend and has shared some of his fantastic pictures with us. I really love Davide’s work – I think he gets to the heart of the sport by capturing so much expression on the cyclists’ faces.
