The Northern hemisphere may still be wrapped up in cosy knitwear, but it’s the height of summer down under and that means the cycling season is in full swing. This weekend saw the culmination of the Australian National Road Championships and it’s two Mitchelton-Scott riders – Amanda Spratt and Cameron Meyer – who will wear the green and gold in the 2020 peloton. There was sharp smart racing, selfless teamwork and tears a-plenty on the podium.
A special day at the Tour Down Under. Richie Porte makes it six Willunga Hill victories on the trot. Daryl Impey becomes the first rider to claim the ochre jersey back to back, and the cycling world says goodbye to one of their very best.
It was a stage of action and drama at Tour Down Under. The GC leaders battled for bonus seconds. A first WorldTour victory went to Jasper Philipsen after Caleb Ewan was relegated for head butting. Race leader Patrick Bevin was involved in a crash and had to chase to get back with the peloton.
