Tim Wellens’ solo victory on Saturday’s queen stage during a Dantesque deluge brought him a suitcase full of jerseys, including the race leader’s, and a healthy GC margin, which he maintained into Monday’s individual time-trial (after the organisers cancelled Sunday’s stage). He finished only some 30 seconds off overall runner-up Fabio Felline and third placed Alberto Bettiol to confirm his overall victory.

Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec preview

Nights are drawing in and the end of the season is fast approaching as a large contingent of riders pack their suitcases and fly north for a weekend of racing in the Laurentian Classics, North America’s only WorldTour races. This duo of events starts with a tough race around Quebec on Friday, before the riders take a 250km journey south-west for Sunday’s challenging route around Montreal.
