Tour de France 2021: Stage 9 – Ben O’Connor solos to a heartwarming victory, Pog keeps yellow

One of those Tour de France stages where nothing really happens and then everything happens at once … near the end. And crazy stuff happened today in Stage 9 in the green jersey competition and the King of the Mountains jersey competition. We had a worthy winner on a cold, wet day in Ben O’Connor (Ag2r Citroen Team), who not only wasn’t even supposed be in the break but ended the day second in the GC! And we had Ineos giving Tadej Pogacar a launch pad from which to put even more time into his rivals and stay firmly in yellow.

Giro d’Italia 2020 : Stage 17 – Second time lucky for O’Connor

It was a day of climbing and one where Stage 16’s disappointed second placer took his chance again. This time, Ben O’Connor showed the NTT jersey proudly as he went over the finish line first and alone. However, once again, the GC rivals left the maglia rosa in peace except for a tiny flutter in the last few hundred metres that made no difference at all to the overall standings.
