Another day for the breakaway (we could get used to this kind of Grand Tour) and Stage 12 of Vuelta 2018 saw another super-break form. The peloton let it go, which led to Alexandre Geniez of Ag2r winning the stage and there was a shock change in the red jersey with the biggest lead over second this Vuelta.

It was a blistering hot stage with a couple of climbs that would scare the bejesus out of lesser men. The first rider to zigzag his way up a virtual wall to the finish was Alexandre Geniez of FDJ in full unzipped glory. Ruben Fernandez celebrated second as he rode into the red jersey with his Movistar teammate Alejandro Valverde coming in third.
