Well, Stage 8 of this year’s Tour de France will be remembered … for all the wrong reasons.
Mark Cavendish, so close in Stage 7 to breaking the record for most Tour de France stage wins, crashed and left the Tour in an ambulance. A moment of pure despair for both him and cycling fans everywhere.
The face says it all.
Absolutely devastated 💔

Cycling can be an inspiring, astounding, transcendent sport. It can also be a very cruel sport, as we have seen time and again. Mark Cavendish has known the sport through all its positives and negatives. One thing is for sure, no one would want him to finish his Tour de France career like this. But his collarbone will mend and, hopefully, he will bounce back and start his retirement from the sport as he has always started a sprint stage – looking positively into the future.
