With every stage, this Tour de France just gets crazier and more thrilling … and today’s Stage 11 was no exception. In fact, it beat the other stages in the crazy, thrilling stakes hands down. It had a beautiful start (Lacets de Montvernier), iconic climbs (Col du Telegraphé, Col du Galibier), and an HC summit finish (Col du Granon). It also had 8 Jumbo-Visma riders who were willing to risk it all … then risk it again … then risk it again … until they cracked the rider everyone assumed was uncrackable, Tadej Pogacar. By the end of the exhausting stage, Jonas Vingegaard was in yellow, Romain Bardet had moved from 7th place to 2nd overall, and Pogacar had dropped to third, 2.22 behind the leader. Yes. It was a hell of a stage.
Jumbo’s madcap plan
That feeling you get when you pull off your madcap plan and take the stage and yellow jersey in commanding fashion in one stage. 🤩 #TourDeFrance2022 #TDF2022 pic.twitter.com/BM5IjEFLqj

I’ve been trying to write this for about two hours now and just can’t work out how to do it. So I will say that you should watch the entire stage or at least from the the midle of the Telegraphe to the finish – because it is nearly impossible to capture exactly what happened in words. I will, however, give you tantalising tidbits from the stage, kind of in order, but without a lot of explanation, because that’s how I remember it.

Break or be broken
Wout up the road to assist when Roglic attacks
UAE fatigues their team chasing Roglic. Vingegaard gets easy follow… when UAE finally catches Roglic, then a fresh Vingegaard will attack.

This is such Schleck vs. Contador climbing. Love it. The mountain train is finally dead. #TDF2022

This is exciting to watch. They either break @TamauPogi or he breaks them. But they are going all in for the win and risk everything today. Great race.
— Thomas De Gendt (@DeGendtThomas) July 13, 2022
Roglič: It was tough, we went all out and in the end the strongest won. When we attacked one by one, we didn't know if we could make it collapse, but I definitely collapsed (laughs), but I didn't care, I was all for it. How do I feel after the injury? Glad I'm not at the top😁".

The Wout Express
The Wout Express (which picked up Roglic) catches the yellow jersey group by surprise. Possibly my favourite part of the whole race.

Will be 'lovely' tonight, see analysts give criticism on Jumbo tactics. 'should've gone easier on roglic, they didn't use their numbers,…' while in fact, they're riding how media and fans are asking for years and doing anything different wouldn't made it more difficult for pogi

Pog just kickin’ back, not a care in the world
Is that all you’ve got, Jumbo-Visma?

Jonas Vingegaard completes the Jumbo-Visma masterpiece, taking the stage and the yellow jersey after a day in which all his temmates played a role: Laporte in the break, Kuss and Kruijswijk working for him, Roglic attacking Pogacar, Van Aert doing everything. Chapeau! #TDF2022

The reactions
What a stage. KM0 attack from WvA+MvdP. Breakaway battle. Jumbo-Visma attacking on Télégraphe, then Galibier. Pogačar soaking up attacks. Barguil solo. Then Granon with Quintana, Bardet & Vingegaard's winning move…
PS 14 July tomorrow with Galibier, Croix de Fer & Alpe d'Huez

“I was talking to my girlfriend.
She means everything to me. The support she gives, the support my daughter gives me, it’s incredible. I would never be able to do anything of this without them. They really mean everything to me. It’s the first thing to do, call them,” he says. https://t.co/xDqAXxSy3S— Sophie Smith (@SophieSmith86) July 13, 2022
