Rookie Racing Recap

Jumbo Chaos!!!

Stage 5 on the cobbles was a shit day of #unluck for Jumbo Visma. Crashes, Keystone Cops bike changes, stray haybales. It was as if the cycling gods were toying with them all day long.

Jonas Vingegaard has a mechanical, which sounds really straightforward but it was not.

At the end of the day, Vingegaard lost only 13 seconds to Tadej Pogacar, thanks to the van Aert Express™. Primoz Roglic, on the other hand, was not so lucky

During the Jumbo Bike Exchange Incident, Primoz Roglic had it out with a stray haybale. The haybale won.

The tufts tells the story

We’ve all come to realise that Tadej Pogacar‘s power comes from his Tufts of Power™. The more pronounced the tuft – and the number of tufts – determine just how much misery he inflicts on other riders that stage.

The thrilling stage 7 with its 24% finish was amazing! And the tufts tell the story.

Wout-tastic

They might have different individual aspirations for this Tour, Wout for the green jersey, Pog for his third consecutive Tour win, but these two almost have a rivalry during stages …

Wout went off on a quixotic stage break … where he rode for a billion kilometres on his own before getting caught … and Pogacar taking stage 6.

Adam Blythe wears his heart on his sleeve … ‘Let him go do Wout things’

Stage 8 – again, it was Wout v Pog. And Wout took the spoils

Michael Matthews did everything right on Stage 8 for the win … but he came up against Redbull power and had to make do with second.

Andy Schleck tries to fire up Pog’s rivals!

Pog seems unperturbed

Oh my heart!

Thibaut Pinot provided the drama on Stage 8 – and Stage 9 – one day, you get a musette in the face, the next, you’re stomping on the pedals chasing down Jungels BOB JUNGELS

Tibo needed to collect himself after that punch in the face, and fell into the arms of Matthew Beaudin. That we all should have someone like him to hug when life’s musette smacks us in the face. This little Twitter exchange is lovely

But Thibaut came back on Stage 9 – getting in the break and going on a power ride to try to catch Jungels. He didn’t catch him, but he showed his mettle

Let us celebrate the return of Jungels BOB JUNGELS

The Gruppetto

Oh my heart!

A discourse in chamois management. Yes. #BradBingo added a lengthy discussion about Jumbo and Pog’s undercarriages.

We go behind the curtain at The Cube …

Gary Imlach serves his commentary up dry. Very very dry.

I can’t unsee this. And now, neither can you.
