I’ve been trying to get this posted for days but everything keeps shifting. So I’m just going to post now … We have Wanty Corner, a lot about Mathieu van der Poel – both good (love his attackity racing!) and horrifying, we applaud Bahrain and Bora’s takin’ it to Ineos and much more. Go, quick, before everything changes again!
Wanty Corner is the BEST corner
Midge has been singing Wanty’s praises for years now … and finally, the cycling world has caught up with her. What a Giro they’re having!
What a difference a year makes, Intermarché-Wanty got a surprise stage win with Taco van der Horn and looked like World Tour relegation candidates this year, now Girmay took a stage and Hirt's taken a giant mountain stage, plus they've won spring classics etc etc
— the Inner Ring (@inrng) May 24, 2022
From Girmay and Kristoff to Van der Hoorn and Hirt, Intermarché-Wanty is the team that took on the WorldTour giants and won.

Take a bow, Mr van der Poel
The Giro spirit is strong in this one
He's the big star name and he's delivered in spades #chapeau
— SuzeCY (@festinagirl) May 24, 2022
He’s always trying to start a breakaway, get into a breakaway, break away from the breakaway … the man is not someone who likes to sit in the back of the peloton, biding his time. He’s ALL ACTION

Not even gigantic mountains of insane inclines can stop him from trying. An AMAZING photograph of MvdP in full flow – and judging from Jered’s post, it was as much a struggle for him to do his job as it was for MvdP to get up those mountains. I hope this doesn’t deter the Grubers from photographing grand tours going forward, Far and away, they are the BEST.
Fair to say VdP is discovering his limits in the mountains and watching him do so is well worth the viewing

Just waiting to see what culinary atrocity Mathieu Van De Poel is going to pull next. Cappuccino after 11am? Chinese with a knife and fork? A well done steak? Double dipping a crisp in dip! When will it end!?

Au revoir, Bardet
This feels so long ago now, but it’s still heartbreaking

— the Inner Ring (@inrng) May 20, 2022
Bardet had been ill. Sometimes a rider can hope to get through a flatter stage but heat today and the climb was too much. Such a pity for him, team & Giro, had been in great form since winning the Tour of the Alps, then matching Carapaz and Landa on Blockhaus climb the other day
— the Inner Ring (@inrng) May 20, 2022
and farewell, Joao Almeida. What a shame. He lost a minute on the previous stage, losing his place on the podium, but he’s been so tenacious and unflappable, I didn’t expect him to take that defeat lying down. Now we’ll never know …
Unfortunately, the reports were true: Joao Almeida didn't start today because he tested positive for COVID-19. Heartbreaking to leave the Giro 3 days before the end as owner of the White Jersey and still with a shot at the podium. 💔 Come back strong, @JooAlmeida98 ! 💪 #Giro https://t.co/5PiNVAs6Fd

Bahrain v Ineos v Bora
It’s all up to Mikel Landa, Richard Carapaz and Jai Hindley now … and their teams.
🇪🇸 Mikel Landa:
"I worked hard to get this far. For me, the #Giro starts for real now. There are some very hard stages during the final week. The form and the team are good. I'll use my experience and try to gain some time before the time trial." https://t.co/r5VUhwScQ9

WHAT IF MIKEL LANDA WINS THE GIRO THOUGH!!! #Landismo #Giro105 #Landawatch
— Arrière du peloton – Tom (@reardupeloton) May 26, 2022
We were pretty impressed by the number of Bahrain shirts during today's final. They outnumbered the Ineos train and showed big confidence in their leader, Mikel Landa.#Landismo was strong again, but missed the big attack at the end. Will he have it the coming days? 🤔#Giro

Funny old Giro d'Italia, this. Alpecin-Fenix, a wildcard invite, has won 3 stages with 3 different riders. Richard Carapaz, maglia rosa with 3 stages remaining, is yet to win a stage. Simon Yates, a pre-race favorite, abandoned with knee pain — but after winning 2 stages. #Giro
