It was the first (official) Monument of the season and certainly through the 5hrs of not-a-lot-happening, the tweeters were out in force … But our timeline really went bananas as the favourites went over the Poggio. It’s another ripping Tweets of the Week with *that* descent, Formolo faces, Tufts of Power, Lachlan’s big adventure, burger butts and much much more.
First things first
We would very much like to wish Sonny Colbrelli a full recovery – he collapsed after the first stage of the Volta a Catalunya (he finished second) with a cardiac episode.

It was all downhill at Milan-Sanremo
A white-knuckle ride with Matej Mohoric

X-rated descent of the Poggio by Mohorič. In the gutter at one point, almost in someone's gate at another, guess the banning of the Mohorič position hasn't blunted his downhilling skills too much

This was a very nervous moment 🙈 for Matej Mohorič as his chain came off with just 900m to go at #MilanoSanremo as he led the chasers but just a few seconds pic.twitter.com/5k81HiWPL8

Sportsmanship at its very best as Matej Mohoric's rivals were quick to congratulate the Slovenian on his #MilanSanRemo triumph.

Davide Formolo looks like the nice sweet freckled boy you always hoped would ask you to the seventh grade dance.

Give me Davide Formolo's facial expressions any day of the week! Super duper rider! #MilanoSanremo2022 🚴♂️🇮🇹

Lachlan’s latest adventure
EF’s Lachlan Morton is all about the loooooooooong ride and he set off solo again this month to raise money for Ukraine. He finished at the Ukrainian border, having raised over $200,000.
Moravske Budejovice, Czechia – KM 398
The sun is setting and
Lachlan's fundraiser is over $100,000 raised, nearly twice his
original goal. All we can say is a
huge thank you for the support!Help him get to his new goal of
$150,000: https://t.co/DJ1djtAJ2d pic.twitter.com/MA2gKJvzwT— EF Pro Cycling (@EFprocycling) March 19, 2022
Riding that distance—more than 660 miles—in 42 hours is crazy. While raising $200k for the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. This to me—and a lot of other folks—is way more interesting that finishing 87th in a race. In the end sports is about engaging, thrilling and entertaining folks.
— Peter Flax (@Pflax1) March 21, 2022
I think EF has been smart about how it has supported Morton on these odd trips. The narrative of his trips takes nothing away from mainstream racing and just expand the boundaries of how the sport can engage fans. Interesting athletes have way more value than many teams realize.

The last word
Last night just as I was out of time on talking with @bbclysedoucet, I asked Lyse quickly about the golden dome that was behind her in the evening light. Her answer really moved me – and it seems I’m not the only one. pic.twitter.com/FeRFp9U4o5
