Tadej Pogacar snatched victory on stage 5. Adam Yates declared the overall winner as the final stages of the tour were cancelled – due to two positive tests for Corona virus from staff of one of the teams. We wish everyone safe and on travelling home to loved ones soon.
Stage 5, UAE Tour
A last minute surge for the line by Tadej Pogacar brought UAE-Team Emirates victory at their home tour. Pogacar, Alexey Lutsenko (Astana), David Gaudu (Groupama -FDJ), Ilnur Zakarin (CCC) and race leader Adam Yates (Mitchelton Scott)played cat-and-mouse all over the slopes of Jebel Hafeet. Sprinting for the line, Lutsenko thought he had it – even got as far raising his arm in victory. But no, a cheeky little move form Pogacar grabbed it by half a bike wheel. Yates finished third.
Eyes on the prize…
The racing on stage 5 wasn’t the only news from the UAE Tour. Unfortunately race organisers have cancelled the remaining stages after two staff members of one of the teams were tested positive for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-19.
Riders and staff from all teams and all people who have worked on the race remain at their hotels until the results from testing are known.

As the situation became clearer, race officials declared Adam Yates the winner of the 2020 UAE Tour. His margin of of victory, 1:01 mins to Tadej Pgacar with Alexey Lutseno third at 1:33
