Tour Tweets of the Week: We’ll always have Paris

There were laughs, there were tears, there was cheering, there were kisses. It was the last week of the 2019 Tour de France and it had everything you could possibly want. And we’ve got a very poignant, tear-jerking Twitter clips of Egan Bernal, Julian Alaphilippe, Thibaut Pinot, plus loads of wonderful memories. Thank you to everyone who has made this year’s Tour Tweets of the Week so much fun to put together!

Boozin’ on the bike

Champers for the winners … both present and past.

Don’t try this at home, kids.

It was beers all round for the Bora boys – hand-delivered by the legend in their midst

The pox! The giant pox!

Do you remember when Pierre Rolland went full pox a few years ago? Let me remind you …

At first, we thought that we dodged the full pox when Romain Bardet took the jersey.

But oh, how wrong we were …

Colombian pride

We had the first Ecuadorian grand tour winner with Richard Carapaz in the Giro. And Egan Bernal has become the first Colombian to win the Tour de France. And when he first donned the maillot jaune on Friday evening, it all got too much for him.

The scenes of him hugging and kissing his family after he crossed the finish line on the Champs were incredibly emotional. And it was even more emotional when we found out what Rigoberto Uran did for the Bernal family.

Bernal’s hometown made quite a noise when he sealed the deal on Val Thorens.

This is just wonderful.

LouLou, we love you!

Julian Alaphilippe surpassed everyone’s expectations – including his own. But do we really want him to have to tame his instinctive, swashbuckling riding, by focusing on a grand tour win? Personally, I wouldn’t. I want to see him cutting a swathe through races all year round – and winning a good many of them.

A wallchart to savour

Edward Pickering was right – LouLou was on the podium in Paris by winning the Super Combatif Award

I really hope you all can see this film of Alaphilippe going over to hug his father after his presentation. (Italian Eurosport so not sure if it works in N America …)

There were some fantastic films that came out of the Tour this year. These are just a few with our favourite swashbuckler as the subject.

Pinot’s tears

We’ll make wine from your tears one day, Thibaut, when you win the Tour.

One of the saddest, most poignant, most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. It shows such love and understanding from Marc Madiot. Everyone should have someone like this …

The Gruppetto

When they forget to pack sandwiches for the post-stage bus ride …

Hopefully, we’ll see Marcel Kittel on the Champs again one day

Stage 19 was so out-of-this-world bonkers, I’m still not sure I believe it all happened!

This little girl is going to go far!

‘You make me feel like dancin’ …’

Oh, how we love Bernard Hinault

If you loved the Tour, why not donate some money to Qhubeka – a great cause.

My favourite tweet ever.
