Giro Tweets of the Week: Unsung heroes and yet more trash talk

We’re looking back at the second week of the 2019 Giro d’Italia and the Twitterstream was bountiful! We have unsung heroes who make good, an Ecuadorian who is guarded by a furious turkey, and a furious Shark … plus so much more, of course. We’re TWEETS OF THE WEEK, Giro-style!

Let’s get in the mood …

Unsung heroes + no plan = win!

There were a few unsung heroes getting some attention last week in the Giro – Dario Cataldo was in a two-man break for 200km on Sunday … and actually won! His first individual Giro stage – and you could see what it meant to him.

Even the tiny dogs were celebrating!

This is the victory that made Midge cry the most this week.

Ilnur Zakarin made his presence known in the race by winning a stage.

Damiano Caruso is the engine of Nibali’s Pain Train™ and he’s been workin’ on the railroad all the live-long day …

His Nibs v Roglic = mindgames

Nibali does get worked up about how other riders ride (remember him throwing a bidon at Chris Froome a few GTs ago?). This time, his nemesis is Primoz Roglic who he thinks just stays on his wheel instead of doing some work in the mountains. However, in this Giro, he’s only thrown the bird at another rider. (I’m going to have to think of a snappy nickname for Roglic …)

No willy-waving here!

Richard Carapaz took the favourites by surprise by waiting, watching, taking his chance and not looking back on Saturday’s stage. He rode himself to a stage victory and the maglia rosa.

A bold prediction – but there’s still a ways to go in this Giro!
