FINAL KM: Tour of The Alps Stage 2

A Colombian carnaval on the Queen stage!!! Two tiny climbers took the honours after a lot of cat and mouse-ing by the favourites on the fierce inclines of the Pampeago.

Tour of the Alps Stage 2: Lavarone to Alpe di Pampeago, 145.5km

Seven point seven kilometres of pure pain on the Pampeago ended with the third victory in three days for the riders in turquoise. Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) brushed off yesterday’s disappointment to dance away from Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) in the final metres. Ivan Sosa (Androni-Sidermec-Bottecchia) finished hot on their heels to claim third place again – 4secs in front of Chris Froome (Sky) in fourth. Those third place bonifications proved vital for GC battle and give Sosa the lead by 6secs from Pinot and Lopez.

You can see the whole broadcast on PMG Sports (commentary in Italian). It’s worth it for the last 2km which start around the 1:07:00 mark.

Colombia Rocks !!!!!

Just who is Ivan Sosa?

Is it a bird, is it a plane?

No, it’s Superman Lopez, so nicknamed after he fought off an attacker who tried to steal his bike, it doesn’t hurt that the talented Colombian flies on the steepest of slopes. On his new custom painted bike no less

Dimension Data’s Ben O’Connor is finding his legs and living his dreams.

Chris Froome owes Kenny Elissonde his tipple of choice for the superb work he put in at the front today. The last man standing in the Sky train just kept on reeling in anyone who rode off the front. His final pull set up Froome for a trademark spinning-attack with a kilometre to go… only this time there were riders who could match him.

This just plain made me laugh out loud
