VeloVoices Awards 2017: Best Women’s Race Finish

These women can! With the help of Scott from Velocast, we’ve put together five great women’s race finishes for your consideration. If you think we missed one that should win, write it in!

Strade Bianche

A rain-soaked, mud-spattered Strade Bianche ended with a thriller of a battle through those iconic last corners to the Siena finish line. Kasia Niewiadoma  tried every which way to get around her opponent but Elisa Longo Borghini rode smart and held her advantage to give Italy their first home win.

Tour of Flanders

When a breakaway containing Elisa Longo Borghini, Kasia Niewiadoma, Anna van der Breggen and Annemiek van Vleuten goes clear on the Muur, the only thing you can do is trust in your team to bring them back. Team Sunweb laid it on the line and when the break was caught at the flamme rouge, Coryn Rivera kicked it into gear at 250m to take a scintillating sprint.

Emakumeen Euskal Bira, Stage 5

Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio‘s incredible solo ride of guts and panache on the final stage gave her the stage victory and the overall title in one bold swoop.

Giro Rosa, Stage 5, ITT

The 12.73km time trial where the flat-looking profile belied the leg-breaking elevation gain. Not that Annemiek van Vleuten appeared to notice. Storming away to take the win and more importantly take an eye-watering 41secs back on the race leader Anna van der Breggen.

La Course

A classic contest on the slopes of Col d’Izoard. Eventual winner Annemiek van Vleuten surging away solo with 5km to go versus Lizzie Deignan dogged in her determination to get back on terms. As the gradient steepened and the corners kept coming, the drama intensified to make this an enthralling watch.

  1. Irvin Smith says:

I would have added the World Championships with Chantal crashing, coming back, attacking until she finally got free. Loved that one.
