Final KM: Stage 5 BinckBank Tour, Stage 2 Arctic Race of Norway

A tactical Amstel Gold day at the BinckBank Tour and the Arctic Race goes full-on military with a sprint on an airbase.

BinckBank Tour Stage 5: Sittard-Geleen to Sittard-Geleen, 164.9km

Lars Boom (LottoNL-Jumbo) outwitted the elite GC selection to take both stage win (his first in two years) and the race lead. Peter Sagan (BORA-hansgrohe) pipped BMC’s Greg Van Avermaet for second. Working out the bonifications took an abacus and all available digits, in the final analysis Boom holds  +2secs over Sagan with Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) at +3secs.

Video, we pick it up for last 5km…

Emotions are raw when adrenaline runs high. Boom’s angry victory celebration caused a stir…

and ultimately cost him …

Made me laugh…

Arctic Race Stage 2: Sjøvegan to Bardufoss, 184.5km

Alexander Kristoff lands stage victory on Bardufoss airstrip. The Katusha-Alpecin fast man targeted this stage and duly delivered, taking the sprint with ease from Cofidis’ Hugo Hofstetter  and Andrea Pasqualon (Wanty-Groupe Gobert). Dylan Teuns (BMC) retains the race lead with two stages to go.

Cleared to land…

Viking of the day…

Not only does this race award the Salmon jersey for best climber (and YES Bernie Eisel (Dimension Data) graces this for another day!!), but there is also a Viking jersey for the most attacking rider – as voted for by the fans!

The vote takes place after the race, follow the race twitter account for all the details.

That sinking feeling…

Astana’s Truls Korseath has been active at his home race. Yesterday he attacked at the perfect time, rode with strength and passion towards the finish line, got his arms aloft for the perfect picture moment … it was marvellous,  but one lap too early!!

You have to feel for him, hope the ribbing at the dinner table wasn’t too bad.
