A stinger of a mountain top finish and all the Belgian cobbles and mud you could wish for. It’s a perfect mix for cycle racing in August.
Vuelta a Burgos Stage 5: Comunero de Revenga to Lagunas de Neila, 136km
If you enjoy a mountain-top finish you’ll love the action on the slopes of the Neila. Sky set it up, Mikel Landa attacked, Astana’s Miguel Angel Lopez took the stage victory in front of Spanish young sensation Enric Mas (Quick Step Floors) and a celebrating race leader. Landa takes the points, mountains AND the GC by 40secs from best young rider Mas and 46secs from the other Spanish Quickstepper David de la Cruz. Astana go home with the best team award.
Video, we pick it up with 7km to go and Sky’s Tao Geoghegan Hart about to attack…
#Unrogue and #chapeau…
Let’s not forget Ben King-of-the-sprints…
Paolo Tiralongo‘s adiós español…
Loved watching Miguel Angel Lopez backing up his exploits at the Tour of Austria and seemingly back to his climbing best (image from race website) …
With Superman, Mas, de la Cruz and goodness knows who else waiting to thrill us, I definitely CAN NOT WAIT for La Vuelta. Bring It On !!!

Sunday Extra! Dwars door het Hageland, 194km
Much as I will happily watch climbers strutting their stuff on the Spanish peaks, my heart longs for those spring days in Belgium. If you’re the same, here’s a treat. 5km of cobbles, 7 climbs and 25km on gravel roads! No WorldTour niceties here, just plenty of action and some very familiar names if you’re a CX fan. Mathieu Van der Poel (Beobank-Coredon) takes the win from Roompot- Nederlandse Loterij’s Taco Van der Hoorn (surely a contender for best name in cycling) and Wout van Aert (Verandas Willems-Crelan)
Pour a Belgian beer, get some frites, click the link and ENJOY! #clambitchin

VeloVoices favourite Bas Tietema after the race, hope the An Post Chain Reaction team bus has plenty of hot water.
