Final KM: Tour de Yorkshire women’s race and men’s Stage 2

Two races in one day over exactly the same route, how about that then?

Tadcaster to Harrogate, 122km

The women’s one day race was an aggressive and finely balanced affair. Lizzie Deignan soloed over the line to take her first victory of the season after some terrific teamwork from the Boels-Dolmans team. Behind her Coryn Rivera (Sunweb) took the uphill sprint with Wiggle High5’s Giorgia Bronzini in third.

With the break of the day reeled in at 22km to go, the men’s peloton set about launching a flurry of last minute attacks on terrain that favoured the bold. The sprinter’s team were having none of it and Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) made it look all too easy on the uphill drag. Swift and straight – it’s not often you can say that about about the pugnacious Frenchman. Caleb Ewan (Orica-Scott) placed second, enough to get him a consolation podium trip to collect the leader’s jersey. Jonathan Hivert (Direct Energie) rounded out the podium. There are three sprinters at the top of the GC.  I do not expect to see them after stage 3: it’s a hellish day ahead.

Highlights women…

Highlights men …

Tour de Yorkshire podium prizes are brilliant!

Lizzie with the Yorkshire pudding trophy…

And Nacer with a hamper from Betty’s Tearooms that’s so heavy he had to put it down #jealous

I have a soft spot for the Bike Channel Canyon team. They’ve been riding with some style. Plus they have Chris Opie, fellow Cornishman and speedster of some repute #MidgeFav

What a scrapbook of memories for the FDJ – NouvelleAquitaine – Futuroscope team…

Bunting and crowds….
