Final KM: Volta a Catalunya St 4

Cold start and a red hot finish! Volta a Catalunya rocks into day four.

Volta a Catalunya Stage 4: La Seu d’Urgell to Igualada, 134km

Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) waited and waited on the wheel of FDJ’s Davide Cimolai before zipping off and scorching past him in the final 100m. Daryl Impey (Orica-Scott) rounded out the podium.

The riders woke to the sight of snow covered team buses and the welcome news that the stage would be shortened by 58km. The slopes of the Cat 2 Toro del Puig in the final 20km provided perfect ambush terrain. The best move came on the descent when FDJ’s young neo David Gaudu attacked with Movistarlet Marc Soler and were joined by Chris Froome (Sky) and Movistar’s Alejandro Valverde. They got a gap but the fast men would not be denied. Tejay van Garderen (BMC) finished safely in the bunch and there were no changes on GC ahead of the Queen Stage.
