KBK 2017 : Peter Sagan sprints to success

Our second day into the Belgian classics and it was another nail-biting finish. Defending champion Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafredo) was the one who forced the final selection by taking a flier off the front at 30km out, to be joined by Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe), Matteo Trentin (Quickstep Floors), Tiesj Benoot (Lotto Soudal) and Luke Rowe (Sky). A lot of fun and games once the quintet passed under the flamme rouge kept it exciting, until Sagan put the hammer down to leave the rest in his wake for his first KBK victory. Stuyven roared in second and Rowe completed the final podium.

Omloop 2017: GVA golden in Ghent, Brand brings it home for Sunweb

One thing I’ve learned from watching spectatorless desert races ridden on four-lane highways is this: they make me even more thirsty for the start of the cobbled classics. And today’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad was like a long, cool drink of water, courtesy of Lion of the Peloton™ Peter Sagan‘s move in the final 50km that busted the race apart. But it was Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) who took his second Omloop victory in a three-up sprint with Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Sep Vanmarcke (Cannondale Drapac) second and third respectively.
