Final KM: Abu Dhabi St 4, Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, Omloop van het Hageland

Abu Dhabi winds up with a slick tyre sprint, the lion of the peloton roars at Kuurne and it’s Belgian home win at Omloop Hageland.

Abu Dhabi stage 4: Yas Marina144km

On a day when the heavens opened making the Yas Marina Formula One circuit more slick than episode of The West Wing, Caleb Ewan (Orica-Scott) made up for his rookie error on stage two by taking a blistering win against sprint royalty Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) and Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal)

Highlights…

The racing was enlivened by the fight for a hat full of bonus seconds. Quick Step’s Best Young rider Julian Alaphilippe claimed a cheeky sprint to leap from 9th to 5th on GC. Other than the young Frenchman, the GC remained the same with best team UAE Emirates’ Rui Costa claiming the title for a from Ilnur Zakarin (Katusha-Alpecin) and Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb). Mark Cavendish goes home with the points jersey.

Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, 200.7km

Peter Sagan put his second place yesterday right out of his mind to deliver his first win of the season for Bora-Hansgrohe. The World champ got the jump on the group of five, holding off  fast finishing Jasper Stuyven (Trek -Segafredo) with Sky’s Luke Rowe rounding out the podium. Jasper Stuyven came so close to repeating his 2016 victory. We love a rider who takes the race by the scruff of the neck #chapeau…

Spar – Omloop van het Hageland – Tielt-Winge, 126.6km

Jolien D’Hoore took out the win on a furious bunch sprint to deliver the first win for the Wiggle High5 team. The Belgian edged out Chloe Hosking (Ale Cippolini) with Orica -Scott’s Sarah Roy in third. Here’s the Wiggle High5 report for all the details.
