It’s fond farewells to some of cycling’s biggest names, which means one thing: Lifetime Achievement Awards (and tranquillisers for me).
It’s been quite a cycling season, with first-time winners in all the Monuments; the Giro and the Vuelta on a knife-edge into the final few stages; some big teams folding and some big riders hanging up their wheels. So it should be a fairly interesting VeloVoices awards list this year. The highly coveted Rider of the Year is not for the winningest rider or the one with the most WorldTour points (although in this case …) or the highest paid. No, as with all of our stuff, it’s highly personal and we’ve each nominated the rider who kept each of us on the edge of our seat.
