Tour de France 2016: Stage 1 – Cavendish finally takes yellow

It was a fast and nervous start to this year’s Tour de France with the peloton allowing the break to have their head until 5km to the finish. The bunch sprint was scrappy – and full tilt! – and for the first time, Mark Cavendish won a head-to-head against Marcel Kittel who was second. Peter Sagan freelanced to third. Cavendish takes his first ever yellow jersey. All GC contenders came in safely.

Tour de France 2016: the riders speak!

The pre-Tour de France team press conferences are a great opportunity to catch up with the riders and get their individual takes on the forthcoming race. It’s not physically possible to attend all 22 conferences as half are held at the teams’ hotels while the other half are taking place in the Press Centre. So I’m just going to home in on a few.
