Oh my, what a final day of racing at both the Tour de Suisse and Aviva Women’s Tour. It’s days like these that remind us all why we LOVE this mad, crazy, emotional sport.
Tour de Suisse, Stage Nine, La Punt to Davos, 57km
A weather shortened stage ended with two Colombians swooshing down a thrilling descent towards glory. Jarlinson Pantano (IAM) took a hugely emotional stage win in a seven up sprint from Katusha’s Sergei Chernetckii and Ion Izagirre (Movistar). Miguel Lopez (Astana) secured his first WT stage race by 12secs from Izagirre with Warren Barguil (Giant-Alpecin) taking a brilliant third at +18secs. Maximiliano Richeze (Etixx-Quick Step) took the points jersey, young Antwan Tolhoek (Roompot-Oranje) was King of the Mountains, and Martin Elminger (IAM) was best Swiss rider.

Aviva Women’s Tour, Stage Five, Northampton to Kettering, 133.km
Lizzie Armitstead (Boels-Dolmans) clinched the overall, but not before a seven rider break nearly caused a major upset. The stage victory went to Cervelo-Bigla’s Finnish Champion Lotte Lepisto, who outsprinted Marta Bastianelli (Ale Cippolini) and Canyon-SRAM’s Elena Cecchini in the bunch gallop. Armitstead took top step of the podium by 11secs from Ashleigh Mooliman (Cervelo-Bigla) and Elisa Longo Borghini (Cervelo-Bigla). Marianne Vos (Rabobank-Liv) took the points jersey, Katie Hall (UnitedHealthcare) the mountains, and Liv-Plantur’s Floortje Mackaij was best young rider.
