Final KM: Dauphine Stage 7, Suisse Stage 2

Sunshine, solo wins and a GC battle fought all over the mountains and right up to the finish line. It is NEVER all over until the last day at the Dauphine.  Meanwhile, over at the Tour de Suisse it was a case of rain, rainbows and solitary seconds.

Criterium du Daphine, Stage Seven, Le Pont to Superdevoluy, 151km

A majestic Steve Cummings (Dimension Data) soloed away to claim the team’s second stage win of the race. Chris Froome and Sky controlled the intense GC battle to take his third victory at this race. Dan Martin (Etixx-Quick Step) battled and sprinted to a brilliant second place on the day and 3rd overall. Romain Bardet (Ag2r-La Mondiale) matched him, his third place secured 2nd step on the podium. Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx-Quickstep) was best young rider. Daniel Teklehaimanot (Dimension Data) reclaimed the polka dots for the second year and Edvald Boasson Hagen carried home the points jersey.

Highlights…

What a day and indeed whole race for Team Dimension Data…

Fascinating race to watch, but oof spare a thought….

Tour de Suisse, Stage Two, Baar to Baar,  187.6km

The Rainbow clad warrior does it again! Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) came off Michael Matthews‘ Orica-GreenEDGE train to take an historic twelfth win at this race. Maximilano Richeze (Etixx-Quick Step) placed second and Matthews rounded out the podium. Race leader Fabian Cancellara (Trek-Segafredo) took the final intermediate sprint to increase his 1sec advantage over Lotto-Soudal’s Jurgen Roelandts, only to find himself the wrong side of a 3sec split in the peleton at the finish line. Roelandts was the right side and takes over the lead by, you’ve guessed it, a single second! Battle to be reconvened tomorrow.

Highlights. We pick it up with 2km to go (oh and watch for the Dane Magnus Cort, delivering Bling and then sprinting to 4th)

Two mountain goats in lycra !!…

Giant Fabian flag…

Looked great on the aerial shots…
