Final KM: Amgen Tour of California St6, ATOC Women St2

Race of truth day at California; team variety for the women and solo efforts for the men. No one had TT bikes so it was road bikes and tri-bars galore. It was windy around the Johnny Cash homeland at Folsom, but that didn’t stop the fast times rolling. Lets get right down among the disc wheels.

A scorcher of a time trail saw BMC place two on the podium with Rohan Dennis on the top step and Taylor Phinney on the third. Sandwiched between them was Cannondale’s Andrew Talansky. Race leader Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx-Quick Step) put a really special performance to limit his time loss. He now holds 16secs on Dennis and 38secs on BMC’s Brent Bookwalter.

Highlights…

Giant-Alpecin’s Danish powerhouse Soren Kragh Andersen (how sweet is Koen de Kort)

Neilsen Powless #ProvedIt.. he’s nineteen!!

A beautifully controlled effort Twenty16-RideBiker gave the American team the victory. Boels-Dolmans placed second, with UnitedHealthcare rounding out the podium. Megan Guarnier (Boels-Dolmans) retains the leader’s jersey by 12secs from Kristin Armstrong (Twent16-RideBiker) and 22secs from Boels-Dolmans Evelyn Stevens.

Just love these videos from Voxwomen, they really take you inside the women’s race scene.
