We’re not usually fans of bike races finishing on motor racing tracks, but this one was a real thriller….
Tour of California, Stage 4, Morro Bay to Laguna Seca, 217km
The longest stage produced high octane finish and win number two for Peter Sagan (Tinkoff). The rainbow warrior outfoxed a whole posse of BMC riders before powering out of the famous corkscrew turn to hold off Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) at the line. A feisty Nathan Haas (Dimension Data) claimed third having given everything in the closing kilometres. Julian Alaphilippe extends his lead in the GC by taking bonifications in an intermediate sprint, he’s now 22secs clear of Peter Stetina (Trek Segadredo).
