We LOVE it when the break of the day makes it all the way to the line, and the four riders today were brilliant. Surely the victory is due to the tenacity and daring of the break, rather than a mistimed catch by the peloton!
Tour of California, Stage 2, South Pasadena to Santa Clarita, 148.5km
A day in Angeles mountains ended with Ben King (Cannondale) just getting the better of breakaway partner Rally Cycling’s Evan Huffman in a two up sprint for the line. Eight seconds later Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) pipped Tinkoff’s Peter Sagan in the bunch sprint for third and the last bonifications. Meaning King is now the new leader of the race by 8secs from Huffman and 14secs from Sagan. Some consolation comes to Huffman in the form of the KOM jersey. Ben King is just about coming back to form after breaking his fibula in the off season, no wonder there was a 1000 watt smile on the podium.

Getting that smile ready…
Now THAT’S a trophy…
The Most Courageous Riders of the day does to [drum roll] ….breakaway rider Will Barta (Axeon Hagens Berman). For not giving up after a mechanical dumped him out of the BOTD. He deserved his podium time and the plaudits.
