Final KM: Giro del Trentino Stage 3, Tour of Croatia Stage 3

Queen stage action from Trentino and another tricky sprint finish from Croatia. It’s a Final Kilometre of just the right size to go with breakfast.

Giro del Trentino St 3, Sillian to Mezzolombardo, 204.6km

The climbs of the queen stage whittled the peloton down to a group of ten riders in play for the win. There were constant attacks down the swooping descent and along the flat run to the line, but it was Tanel Kangert that took the victory with late solo move. With more climbing on the last stage, the GC podium could not be closer: Mikel Landa (Sky) holds the lead by 8secs from Kangert, with Jakob Fuglsang at 10secs.

All week I’ve been wondering how to describe the colour of the leader’s jersey. French commentators gave me the answer – it’s the Maillot Cyclamen! Have to say Landa wears it well, and he’s riding a blinder.

As usual Inner Ring has the word…

Tour of Croatia St 3, Makarska to Sibenik, 190.8km

Another day, another tricky sprint finish. The breakaway gave everyone a scare and were only caught at the flamme rouge.  Trek -Segefredo got their sprint train just right and Giacomo Nizzolo made no mistake about win number 2. Timothy Dupont (Veranda Willems) placed second with IAM’s Matteo Pelucci in third. The leader’s jersey passes from Mark Cavendish to Nizzolo. However, stage 4 is a mountain-top-finish, it’s time for the climbers to come out and play.

Winner!
