An emotional day of racing in Belgium started with a minute of silence in honour of those affected by the bombing in Brussels yesterday, and ended with two Belgian flavoured sprint finishes. While over in Spain, the climbers stretched their legs on La Molina.

Volta a Catalunya, Stage 3, Girona to La Molina, 172.1km

Etixx-Quick Step’s Dan Martin launched a ferocious attack in the last kilometre on La Molina to take the first mountain-top finish with ease. Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) finished second with Romain Bardet  (Ag2r La Mondiale) rounding out the podium. Martin takes the leaders jersey by six seconds from Baby Blackbird and 8secs from Bedhead Bardet. There’s another day in the mountains waiting on stage 4.

71st Dwars Door Vlaanderen, Roeselare to Waregem, 199.7km

What a finish! Greg Van Avermaet’s (BMC) solo attack was hunted down with 500m to go. As they roared towards the finish line Lotto Soudals’ Jens Debusschere burst out of the pack in the final metres to just pip an already celebrating Bryan Coquard (Direct Energie) for the win. Eddie Theuns (Trek-Segafedo) made it two on the podium for Belgium.

Highlights…

5th Dwars Door Vlaanderen Vrouwen, Vertrekt to Aankomst, 103km

Wiggle High5 played a blinder in the teamwork stakes. Amy Pieters forced the selection on the Paterberg and still had the strength to take her third consecutive win when the catch was made with two kilometres to go. Team mate Jolien D’hoore made it a one-two for the team with Eileen Roe (Lares-Waowdeals) placing third.
