It took the VeloVoice team a while to travel to the Volta a Catalunya [Midge got waylaid at the Tour de Normandie], but we’re back in the groove! With a line up of stars that would grace the Tour de France and several stages to suit the fast men; it’s been all action from the get go. Here’s a quick catch up from one of our favourite Spanish stage races.
Volta a Catalunya, Stage 1, Calella to Calella, 175.8km
Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) put the disappointment of Milan-San Remo behind him to take the bunch sprint at a canter from Ben Swift (Sky) and Orica-GreenEDGE’s Daryl Impey.
Love this picture of cousins at the start line by Karen Edwards. Karen is at the race, watch out for her on twitter

Volta a Catalunya, Stage 2, Mataró to Olot, 178.8km
Cofidis’ Nacer Bouhanni made it two from two on a tough rolling stage. Superb work by his team, especially Geoffroy Soupe, put the French sprinter in a perfect position with 400m to go and he was simply too fast from there. Gianni Meersman (Etixx-Quick Step) and Phillippe Gilbert (BMC) placed second and third respectively. With bonifications Bouhanni wears the leader’s jersey with a 14sec advantage from Swift and Thomas de Gendt (Lotto -Soudal). Stages 3 and 4 see the peloton tackle the mountains, it’s time for the GC contenders to come out and play.
Highlights for Stage 2…
