The longest stage of this year’s edition ended in a whirlwind of sprint controversy and win number two for Michael Matthews (Orica-GreenEDGE). Let’s get right down to the last 50m.
Paris-Nice, Stage 2, Contres to Commentry, 214km
Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) and Bling clashed on the barriers as they went head to head in a ragged, on-the-edge sprint. The Frenchman crossed the line in first place but was later relegated to third for irregular sprinting. Niccolo Bonifazio (Trek-Segafredo) eventually ended up with second step on the podium. Bling’s win bagged him ten more bonus seconds increasing his overall lead to 14secs on Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Alpecin) and 19secs to Cannondale’s Patrick Bevin.
