The Tour of Qatar wrapped up with a photo finish, triples wins and double crowns. The weather for La Med was anything but sunny but that didn’t stop FDJ from making hay. Your Final Kilometer run down is a GO!
Tour Of Qatar, Stage 5, Sealine Beach Resort to Doha Corniche, 114km
A screamer of sprint ended in a photograph finish and stage win number three for Alexander Kristoff (Katusha). The Norwegian edged out Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) by a smidge of a second with Wanty-Groupe Gobert’s Roy Jans snatching third. Cav might have been a millimetre short of the stage win, but it was enough to ensure the gold leader’s jersey by 5secs from Kristoff with BMC’s Greg Van Avermaet rounding out the podium at 8secs. Super consistent BMC were rewarded with the best team prize and Kristoff was back on the podium for the the silver points jersey. Søren Kragh Andersen kept the best young rider pearl jersey and finished sixth overall – a damn fine debut and a great boost for Giant-Alpecin [VeloVoices Towers is bedecked with red and white bunting]
Always time for a camel photo op…
La Méditerranéenne, Stage 2, Banylus to Port Vendres, 157.6km
On a tough, wet day FDJ turned on the style and delivered Arnaud Demare for his first win of the season in front of team mate and poisson-pilote Mickael Delage. It was very nearly a podium clean sweep, overall leader Matthieu Ladagnous just lost out to Ag2r’s Jan Bakelants for the third step. The leader’s jersey stays with FDJ but switches to the shoulder of Demare.
