Today’s post is a tale of two home wins and drizzled icing! Simon Gerrans doubled up with a doozy of a sprint at the TDU. Eduardo Sepúlveda conquered a spectacular mountain-top-finish at the TDSL. Let’s get to it.
Stage 4, Santos Tour Down Under: 138km Norwood to Victor Harbor
Remember I wrote Simon Gerrans is BACK! yesterday? Well get your pen and underline those four words in red. A super lead out from Daryl Impey gave the Orica-GreenEDGE captain victory number two in a close finish from Ben Swift (Sky) and Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo). Bonifications means he extends his lead to 14 seconds over Tinkoff’s Jay McCarthy with Rohan Dennis (BMC)at 26 seconds.
Stage 4, Tour de San Luis: 140km Terrazas del Portezuelo to Cerra El Amago
It was definitely a day for climbers in Argentina. As the road went up Eduardo Sepúveda (Fortuneo-Vital Concept) soloed away to take the win from Janier Acevedo (Jamis) with Costa Rica’s Roman Villalobos in third. The stage victory put Sepuveda into the race lead by three seconds from Movistar’s Dayer Quintana.
The finish to Alto del Amago gives even the switch-backed beauty of the Lacets de Montvenier a run for their money… just stunning.
