If you’re going to the World Road Race Championships in Richmond, keep a look out for some fantastic civic art – specifically murals.

Local artist James Thornhill has painted a massive mural of Marshall “Major” Taylor, a pioneering African-American cyclist who won many titles during his career, including the one-mile world championship title in 1899. Nicknamed the “The Black Cyclone,” he was inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame in 1989, 57 years after his death.

Keep an eye out for this fantastic mural – it’s on the race course, at the corner of 1st and Marshall in Richmond.
