Sunday might be a day of rest for most of us, but it certainly wasn’t for the pelotons in Italy and California. It was another ding-dong battle between the GC contenders in Italy for stage 9, while in LA, the ATOC title was decided by a whisker. Your highlights of the action are here (plus a little treat at the end for you):
It was an up-and-down, jiggity-jaggity stage in the Giro. It was another solo win and further GC reckoning as well.
Peter Sagan rose to the challenge in LA – he didn’t need to win the stage to take the overall title, he only needed to be third to take bonus time to unseat Julian Alaphilippe. Mark Cavendish won the stage, Tyler Farrar nearly scuppered Sagan’s chances, but the Velvet Samurai’s bike throw gave him victory by a hair.
Added bonus: A familiar face was seen around the Tour of California. Here is Jens Voigt talking about the realities of retirement. “For the first time in my adult life, I have more than 10% body fat.” Welcome to our world, Jens.
