The 103rd running of Schelderprijs took place on Wednesday. It’s a race for the sprinters: fast, furious, hectic and this year was no different as that man from Katusha – Alexander Kristoff – took the victory.
One of my favourite photographers, Kåre Dehlie Thorstad, captured both the race and the atmosphere for Peloton Magazine. Like all good exponents of the craft, it’s his knack of capturing those little moments of stillness amidst the chaos that resonate.
This image of a battle weary Mads Pedersen from Cult Energy Pro Cycling leapt off the page for me. Youngest rider in the race and in a good position until the crash in the closing kilometres took its toll, you can see the race etched into his expression. Check out the whole Scheldeprijs series here.
