We’re using to seeing Olympic champions such as Samuel Sanchez sporting a spot of gold on their person, bike or shoes but here’s a bike that takes bling to a whole new level.
British company Goldgenie specialises in creating personalised gold-plated gifts and has covered almost every single inch of this Giant men’s racing bike in 24-carat gold. The saddle is swathed in San Marco suede while the tyres are reassuringly still rubber. For the finishing touch, the company adorns the bike with a few diamonds.
The £250,000/US$380,000 price tag makes it more expensive than most luxury sports cars but you’ll have to buy your own lock for it, as that’s not included. Still, if you can afford the asking price, you can probably afford a security guard for it. There’s no mention of whether the adornments improve the bike’s performance. But company director Frank Fernando is quoted in Haute Living as saying:
This men’s bike is not only a work of art to admire, but also to enjoy riding if you dare and are brave enough to face the stares of astonishment. The set-up and design is that of a high-end racing bike, and while it may not reach the speed of light, the artisans at Goldgenie believe in catching the light as you travel!
Oh my!
I know! Kinda hard to believe it wasn’t a spoof.
Sheree, I’d have to kick my own butt for buying that bike.
I have a hard time understanding who on earth would buy such a thing.

Anybody got a spare $370,000?!
I am thinking about buying a road bike for spring…this looks like a great upgrade!
(I might have to invest in some bike locks as well)
It’ll need round the clock body guards!
Yeah probably… but I don’t think my budget can squeeze to accommodate body guards, I guess I will have to pass on the golden bike for now. My heart is breaking.
