The new Cannondale-Garmin team and its kit – black with green accents – was launched last week in New York amid much fanfare. Canadian Cycling News caught up with one of the riders featured in the presentation – and a favourite of VeloVoices – Ted ‘Maple Syrup’ King.
.
Ted talks about his role as a domestique on the team and how he’ll use his years of experience to help guide his younger teammates, particularly the Italians Alberto Bettiol, Davide Formolo, Moreno Moser and Davide Villella with whom he rode at Cannondale.
Ted’s long been based in Girona, home to many of the Garmin boys, and his easy, laid-back, New England manner is likely to be a key in helping to meld the Italian and American cultures into one team.
The team first got together back in November for what Ted calls the “best team-building camp ever” – racing yachts in the British Virgin Isles(!) From the look of this video of the boys working as one, we have to agree. Pina Colada anyone?
